The Chemistry Department announces the selection of Dr. Jill Venton as the new Department Chair. She will assume the role on August 25, 2019 at the start of the new academic year. Dr. Venton is the Principal Investigator on two NIH RO1 grants studying neurochemical changes in the brain. Her group develops tiny electrochemical sensors and then uses them to understand how the brain changes during diseases such as stroke, Parkinson’s disease, and opioid use disorder. She earned her Ph.D. at UNC-Chapel Hill in 2003 and was a postdoc at University of Michigan. In 2005, she was hired as an Assistant Professor of Chemistry and Neuroscience Graduate Program at UVA. In 2011 she was promoted to Associate Professor, and was promoted to Professor in 2016.
