The Department of Chemistry at the University of Virginia (UVA) is pleased to invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor or tenured Associate Professor position in the field of solid-state NMR spectroscopy with a focus on applications toward the study of catalytic materials for energy and chemicals processes. This position is part of UVA's investment of $60 million toward climate solutions through the University's Grand Challenge Research Initiatives, which include significant investments in research infrastructure and up to six faculty positions in the area of catalysis for energy and chemical processes.
This new colleague will join a vibrant, interdisciplinary research and teaching community in the Department of Chemistry with a start date on or after August 2024. In this role, they will establish a dynamic, independently-funded research program using solid-state NMR spectroscopy with dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) capabilities in the field of advanced materials for catalytic applications while mentoring students and contributing to graduate and undergraduate educational missions and departmental culture. Further, it is expected that candidates will work with colleagues at the University of Virginia to collaboratively build innovative and impactful research and education programs. The solid-state NMR with DNP capabilities will provide a platform to build new collaborations across UVA to advance the study of novel materials, especially with applications in the field of catalysis.

Qualifications

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Virginia is delighted to invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the field of bioanalytical chemistry, with a focus on potential or ongoing applications of the analytical methods to neuroscience or the brain. This new colleague will join a vibrant, interdisciplinary research and teaching community in the Department of Chemistry and the UVA Brain Institute, with a start date on or after August, 2024. In this role, they will establish a dynamic, independently-funded research program in the bioanalytical sciences while mentoring students and contributing to graduate and undergraduate educational missions and departmental culture. Areas that would complement current expertise in the Chemistry department may include, but are not limited to, spatially resolved or imaging-based analytical methods or sensors, biomolecular analysis, -omics analyses, mass spectrometry, microscale analysis, or integration with data science. Neuroscience applications may include fundamental neuroscience or neuroscience related fields, including neuro-oncology, neuro-immunology, development, or others.

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA, invites applications for a non-tenure-track Assistant Professor, General Faculty (teaching track) position in Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry, to begin in the 2024-2025 academic year. This is a three-year, tenure-ineligible appointment with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon available funding, satisfactory performance, and need for the position. The primary responsibilities involve instruction of large lecture courses in organic chemistry and biochemistry; experience teaching nursing students is a plus.
Preference will be given to applicants with teaching experience in organic chemistry and biochemistry courses. The successful candidate is expected to teach three courses per semester or their equivalent. Start date for the position is August 25, 2024.
Compensation will be commensurate with experience and includes 9-month salary with full-time benefits (there is also a possibility of summer term teaching for additional pay). The term of this appointment will be for three academic years with the possibility of renewal.
Qualifications
A Ph.D. in Chemistry or related field is required by appointment start date. At least one year of independent teaching experience and a commitment to teaching excellence is required.
